He is not talking about attacks or battlefield acts, instead he reflects on what is going on in the head of those comitted to combat. He covers the grunt and the officer. The different personalites and how they need to be known, understood and used accordingly. This is a far cry from the popular vision of the German army is nothing but robots ordered around. An army structure using this type of command would be very difficult to defeat. You will find yourself reading and re-reading this for the nuggets it contains. I wish he had lectured on the subject more and added to this information.This is an absolute must read for anyone in command/charge of others and makes decisons/orders that must be relayed to the subordinates. Shrinks should expand on this foundational work. It is NOT a dated work, for man has NOTchanged inside.

Interesting read... reaffirms what I have been teaching my kids all along. Good to know I am on the right track. Good for all future leaders, not just military...
A worm's eye view of what it means to command in the field. Focuses less on tactics than on the means for keeping the men's--not women's, incidentally, since during World War I nobody thought they could or should fight--morale intact. All in all, a useful read.

Quick read filled with valuable timeless information. I strongly recommend this book for newly promoted Non-Commissioned Officers in addition to inexperienced Officers. It will give you a better insight on how to train.
I love this book.
A little-known classic, more's the shame of it. Quoted at length in the US Army's training material of the period. Especially illuminating is the last chapter, in which Von Schnell analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the 1930's US Army for Germany.
This book, unlike most others on the subject, focuses more on personalities and relationships between leaders and their men which as a leader of a prepper defense team, is critical for me. DO NOT let the age of this book deter you from reading it. The advice is timeless.
